Goji berries are said to have an ancient historic background and about 3000 years ago Buddhist monks were first to know about goji benefits. Those monks lived in temples across Indo Tibetan mountain valleys. Monks collected goji berries from different parts of Himalayan mountain ranges. Goji berries are light red colored fruits which are as big as cherries and mostly these berries are a little sour in taste. Goji berries were eaten in ancient ages in two different ways.

One can’t touch goji berries because of their nature that they go black in color if touched and it is of no use as berries get spoiled. When goji berries are ready to eat they become bright red in color. For the best of goji benefits they are shaken off from the tree on a mat or some cloth and then they are dried in shades. Dried berries are eaten like dry dates.

There is also another way of eating goji berries. Lot of goji berries together are squeezed to make wine. Wine made from goji gives same goji benefits and it has an added advantage that the wine made from goji berries can be preserved for a long time. Goji berries are also rich in vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B-complex and some fatty acids.
